Industry: EdTech / Education Services
Jurisdiction: India
Primary Regulator: Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) & NCLT
Important Safety Warning: Beware of the “Fake EdTech Refund Scam.” Scammers frequently buy ads on Google displaying fake BYJU’S customer service helplines. This is a scam. BYJU’S staff will never ask you to download a screen-sharing app (like AnyDesk) or ask for your UPI PIN to process a “refund” for a cancelled course or undelivered tablet.
Level 1: Customer Support (Initial Complaint)
How to complain: Do not search for random phone numbers online. Open the BYJU’S App or website and navigate to the ‘Contact Us’ section to log your initial ticket. You can email their central support desk at support@byjus.com. You can also call their official national customer care at 09241333666. You must ensure you receive a unique ticket or reference number.
Availability: The customer care helpline operates daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM IST.
Timeline: Standard resolution for technical issues or course access is typically within 7 to 10 business days.
Level 2: Internal Escalation (Grievance Officer)
Who to contact: If Level 1 fails to resolve your technical issue, you can escalate it internally. Write an email to the designated Grievance Officer at grievance.redressal@byjus.com, clearly stating your original Level 1 ticket number.
Timeline: Under the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, the grievance desk must legally acknowledge your complaint within 48 hours and attempt to resolve it within one month.
Level 3: Regulatory Authority (National Consumer Helpline)
Authority: Department of Consumer Affairs (National Consumer Helpline).
Portal/Contact: If you are trying to mediate a service dispute, you can register your grievance on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) by calling 1915 or visiting consumerhelpline.gov.in. However, be aware that because of the ongoing insolvency proceedings, the NCH’s ability to force financial refunds is severely limited.
Level 4: CIRP Claim Filing (Replaces Consumer Court)
Authority: The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the Resolution Professional.
Why e-Jagriti won’t work: This is the most critical update for consumers seeking refunds. Think & Learn Pvt. Ltd. (BYJU’S) has been admitted into the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP). Under Section 14 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), a strict legal “Moratorium” is in place. This means you legally cannot file or pursue a consumer court case against BYJU’S for refunds right now; the consumer court will simply stay the proceedings.
How to claim refunds: Consumers seeking refunds (such as for cancelled courses, unfulfilled loan cancellations, or undelivered tablets) must file their claims directly with the NCLT-appointed Resolution Professional. You must submit your proof of claim using the prescribed forms (typically Form F for creditors other than financial/operational) under the IBC regulations. Written correspondence regarding claims should be directed to the Resolution Professional managing the Think & Learn estate.
Community Action: Are you a parent struggling to get a refund for a cancelled BYJU’S course, or are third-party finance companies still deducting EMIs for a course you cancelled? Reply below (do not share your passwords, loan documents, or full billing details), and our community will point you to the right IBC claim forms!
