Verified: February 2026

Important Safety Warning: Beware of fake customer service numbers on Google. Scammers frequently buy ads to promote fraudulent phone numbers. Only use official channels listed below or securely within your Coinbase app. Coinbase staff will never ask for your password, 2-step verification codes, or ask you to send crypto to an external wallet.

Level 1: Customer Support (Initial Complaint)

  • How to complain: You must first create a standard support ticket. Contact Coinbase via the Help Center at help.coinbase.com to use the live chat, or call their official toll-free phone support at 1 (888) 908-7930 (USA/Canada).
  • Availability: Both Live Chat and Phone Support are available 24/7.
  • Timeline: Phone and chat support are immediate. If they need to investigate, they will create a Support Case Number. You must save this case number for Level 2.

Level 2: Formal Written Escalation (Coinbase Complaint Process)

  • Who to contact: If Level 1 fails, you are required by the Coinbase User Agreement to use their Formal Complaint Process. You must fill out the official complaint form at help.coinbase.com/en/contact-us/submit-a-complaint, which requires your Level 1 Support Case Number.
  • Mail Alternative: If you cannot use the online form, you can mail a written complaint (including your case number) to: Coinbase Inc., 228 Park Ave S #23008, New York, NY, 10003.
  • Timeline: Coinbase’s Complaints Resolution Officer has 45 business days to investigate and provide you with a written decision.

Level 3: Federal & State Regulatory Authority (Government Escalation)

  • Authority: CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) for fiat/banking services, and the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) for securities issues. (Note: If you are in New York, you can also escalate to the NY State Department of Financial Services).
  • Portal/Contact: * CFPB: File at consumerfinance.gov/complaint or call 1-855-411-2372.
  • Timeline: The CFPB typically forwards your complaint to Coinbase within 15 days and expects a formal response from the company.

Level 4: Legal Action & Arbitration (Final Step)

  • State Attorney General: File a complaint with your local State Attorney General’s Office through their official website.
  • Small Claims / Binding Arbitration: If 45 business days have passed since you submitted your Level 2 Formal Complaint and you are still unsatisfied, you can file a case in Small Claims Court or initiate Binding Arbitration through the American Arbitration Association (AAA). To initiate arbitration, email a Request for Arbitration to arbitration@coinbase.com.

Community Action: Is Coinbase still ignoring your complaint? Reply below (do not share your seed phrases, passwords, or full account numbers), and our community will point you to the right AAA arbitration templates!
