Beware: New Dating App Scam Targets Big City Users

Scammers are using dating apps like Tinder and Bumble to trick people in big cities like Delhi and Mumbai. They act like they are looking for love, but their real goal is to steal your money. The scammers often say they just moved to the city and feel lonely, trying to get you to meet them at expensive cafes or clubs.

Once there, they order lots of food and drinks, and then leave, making you pay the big bill sometimes as much as ₹40,000. In some cases, even the cafe staff might be working with the scammers.

Stay Safe!

  • Be careful if someone you just met online wants to meet quickly or suggests an expensive place.
  • Try a video call first to make sure they are who they say they are.
  • Never send money or pay bills for someone you’ve just met online.
  • Always pick a safe and familiar spot for a first meeting.
