Yesterday night(10 aug 2024),I found out that my laptop was missing and when I checked my roommates laptop was also missing.
We reported it to the institute and they did nothing.
They are saying it is our personal belongings and they can’t do anything.
This is a hostel and they don’t even provide us basic security.
The doors are open 24*7.
Warden is not here most of times.
Anyone can enter the premises anytime and do anything.
There’s not even a cctv or a security.
Please help me with this
And also I’m not from here so I don’t know Tamil, which creates a communication issue also and they are taking this as an advantage and not cooperating with me and doing things which I request for.
There’s is a flat just opposite to our hostel with a cctv that is facing my hostel.
They are not providing us the visual since we are just students.
Therefore I asked the management for help but they are not coming to atleast help me to get the visuals.
I have no clue what to do.
Please help
Total loss sums upto around more than 1 lakh.
Dear @sanavethomas
If the institute isn’t taking your concerns seriously, especially since you’re paying for accommodation security, you should file a police complaint with your local police station.
Note: You should instantly report your stolen laptop to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) Portal (ceir.gov.in) to block or track it.
Please tell me the name of your district and state so I can help you find the relevant police website for filing an online complaint.
Most states have an online complaint portal called CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems). You can often file an “e-FIR” (electronic First Information Report) through their website.
While filing an FIR, keep a detailed record of your interactions with the hostel management, including dates, times, and the names of anyone you speak to.
Even though they initially refused, politely request the hostel management to provide you with any CCTV footage that may have captured the incident. Explain that this is essential evidence for your police report.
Note: Please share your district and state so I can provide you with more specific instructions for filing an online complaint.
