Avedh Vasuli at bihar border by police from the truck drivers

To the Honorable Chief Minister of Bihar,
Patna, Bihar

Respected Sir/Madam,

I am writing to bring to your attention a serious issue affecting the livelihood of many truck drivers, including those operating under my supervision. At the Bihar border, police personnel are allegedly demanding bribes from truck drivers, and if not paid, they issue challans. This extortionate practice is not only unethical but also causing significant financial losses to the trucking community.

Key Issues:

  • Extortion: Truck drivers are being forced to pay Rs 500 per vehicle to police personnel at the Bihar border.
  • Misconduct: Failure to pay the bribe results in challans being issued, disrupting the smooth operation of our trucks.
  • Financial Losses: With 175 trucks plying this route, the cumulative effect of these bribes is substantial, impacting our business and the livelihoods of many drivers ¹.

Action Requested:

  • Immediate investigation into these allegations
  • Strict action against police personnel found guilty of extortion and misconduct
  • Ensuring safe and hassle-free passage for trucks at the Bihar border

Supporting Evidence:

Similar cases of extortion have been reported in the past, with one instance revealing a monthly collection of Rs 1.5 crore by police personnel at the UP-Bihar border. This led to the arrest of 18 individuals, including two police personnel, and the suspension of several others ¹.

I request your prompt attention to this matter, as it affects not only our business but also the welfare of many truck drivers who rely on this route for their livelihood.

Sincerely,

Sakshu kataria
