Where can I file a cyber crime complaint?

If you have been the target of a cybercrime, whether it’s online harassment, financial fraud, or something else entirely, you’re not alone.

Follow this simple guide to file your complaint with Cyber Police through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal of the government of India:

Step 1. Find the Right Category to Report a Cybercrime

  • Crimes against Women/Children: For the safety of women and children especially serious crimes.
  • Other Cyber Crimes: Any other types of digital crimes, including fraud, hacking, job scams, and data breaches.

Step 2. Reporting Crimes Against Women/Children:

  • Visit the link: Cyber Crime Portal - Report Anonymously

  • Stay Anonymous (Optional): You can choose to report without revealing your identity.

  • Fill in the Details: Describe the incident, including the type of crime and any suspect information you have.

  • Attach Proof: Attach screenshots, links, or any other documents that support your case.

  • Submit and Track: Once you submit the report, note the reference number for future reference.

** Step 3. Reporting Other Cyber Crimes:**

  • Login or Register: You might need to create an account on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. Visit the link: https://cybercrime.gov.in/Webform/Crime_AuthoLogin.aspx

  • Report the Crime: Find the “Report Cyber Crime” section and fill out the details.

  • Provide Information: Describe the incident, suspect details (if known), and any other relevant information.

  • Submit and Track: Don’t forget to note down the acknowledgement number to track your report’s progress.

Keeping Track and Getting Help:

  • Track Your Report: Use the Cybercrime portal’s “Report & Track” feature to see the status of your complaint.

  • Need More Help?: If you’re not satisfied with the response, contact the designated cybercrime police officer for your state or region.
