How can I file a complaint or e-FIR to Kerala Police?

If you want to file a police complaint or e-FIR (both online and offline) to Kerala Police including issues related to police matters, crimes (civil/criminal), corrupt practices, illegal activities, and theft (property, luggage, vehicle, electronic devices, etc.), follow these steps and use the provided contact details:

File a Police Complaint or e-FIR:

First, you can file a police complaint online through the CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems) citizen portal (Thuna) of the state police for a formal report of any incident, whether it’s a cognizable (serious) or non-cognizable (less serious) offence. This can be submitted orally or in writing at the local police station or online. Further, you may lodge an FIR (First Information Report) which is a formal record of information related to cognizable offences, initiating the first step in a criminal investigation.

In case of a cognizable offence (criminal cases), you have to visit your nearest police station and lodge a formal FIR to the Station House Officer (SHO) or the officer in charge. They will help you file a written complaint. Don’t forget to obtain a copy of FIR with reference/case number from SHO or a designated officer free of cost.

Please note that filing an FIR or complaint with the Kerala Police is free. If any officer demands money, report to the higher officials at district police headquarters.

Steps to file an online police complaint or e-FIR:

  1. Visit the official website of Kerala Police (keralapolice.gov.in).
  2. Navigate to the “Thuna - CCTNS Citizen” portal
  3. Create an account by clicking “Create Account” if you don’t have one. After successfully logging in, select the online complaint option.
  4. Select the appropriate option and fill out the online form by providing all necessary details about the incident, including the date, time, location, parties involved, and a clear description.
  5. Upload any relevant evidence you have, such as photos, videos, or documents.
  6. Review your information and submit the complaint/e-FIR.

Finally, note down the reference/case number to track the status. You can also download the “Pol-App” from your mobile app store (available for both Android and iOS) of police services.

For technical or citizen e-services issues while lodging an e-FIR, email supporticops.pol@kerala.gov.in or call to +919497900567.
