How can I file a police complaint or e-FIR to Jharkhand Police?

If you want to file a police complaint or e-FIR or report incidents to Jharkhand Police, whether the cases are criminal in nature or civil disputes including illegal activities, crimes, cognizable/non-cognizable criminal incidents, or corrupt practices and harassment by police officers, use the following steps and the provided contact details of officials:

File a Police Complaint or e-FIR:

To lodge your police complaint or e-FIR online, you can use the Jharkhand Police’s Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) portal. If you want to file an FIR regarding cognizable offences, serious crimes where the police can begin an investigation without a court order (e.g., theft, assault), visit your nearest police station to file a complaint or FIR (First Information Report) for both cognizable and non-cognizable offences.

While lodging a complaint, provide the following details:

  • Personal Details: Your name, address, and identification (if required).
  • Incident Details: Date, time, location, and description of what happened.
  • Victim Information: If applicable, details about the victim(s).
  • Evidence: Any documents, photos, or videos related to the incident.

Steps to file an online complaint/e-FIR

  1. Visit the Jharkhand police’s official portal (jhpolice.gov.in)
  2. Navigate to the “CCTNS portal” for e-FIR or “Jharkhand Police Online FIR System” for lodging a police complaint.
  3. Login or register your account and click “complain” to open the online complaint form.
  4. Fill in the required information accurately, as mentioned above.
  5. Upload any supporting documents.
  6. Submit the e-FIR/complaint.

Finally, note down the FIR number/reference ID or download a copy for your records.

Please note that non-cognizable offences are less serious (e.g., minor disputes) and may require a court order for investigation. If you have lodged an FIR at the local police station to SHO or designated official, don’t forget to obtain a copy of the FIR with reference number free of cost.
