The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) guarantees 100 days of wage employment to rural households aimed at rural employment and poverty alleviation. However, sometimes beneficiaries may face issues in its implementation and payment reimbursement. If you have any problems, you can file a complaint by following these steps.
You can complain about delayed or non-payment of wages, non-generation of employment, incorrect measurement of work, discrimination based on caste, gender, or other factors, corruption and misappropriation of funds, and other grievances related to NREGA.
Steps to file an online complaint:
- Visit the state/UT’s public grievance portal:
- State-Level Complaints: Visit the “online public grievance portal” of your state government where you can register your complaint.
- Central-Level Complaints: If you are from Union Territory (UT), visit the central government’s Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) portal.
- Follow the provided instructions to open the online grievance form.
- Select the state government’s Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department. For UTs, select the Ministry of Rural Development in the CPGRAMS grievance form.
- Choose the sub-department “Mahatma Gandhi NREGA” and select the category of issue.
- Fill out the form with required details including a description of your grievance and supporting evidence, if any.
- Attach supporting documents, if any.
- Submit the form.
Finally, note down the reference/acknowledgement number to track the status of your complaint.
If not resolved, you can re-open the online complaint or re-submit a new grievance mentioning the reference number of the previously unresolved complaint and the expected resolution from the authorities.
Levels of Grievance Escalation:
In most states, the grievance redressal process is divided into 3 levels, these levels are:
- Block/Panchayat Level: Initially, your complaint will be resolved by the concerned block or panchayat office.
- District Level: If the issue is not resolved at the block level, it will be escalated to the district panchayat office.
- State Appellate Authority: Finally, your appeal will be escalated to the state appellate authority (Secretary/Nodal Officer) of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department.
To know the contact details of respective state officials and MoRD, visit: the State MGNREGA MIS Officers and MoRD officers page of the MNREGA portal.
Note: The grievance redressal mechanism and timelines might vary from state to state. You should read the citizen charter of your state’s Rural Development department for detailed information.
