The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) have received reports of fraudulent calls threatening to disconnect mobile services on their behalf.
DoT has sent a notice to aware of the citizens:
“We hereby clarify that neither DoT nor TRAI makes such calls. Any official communication regarding your mobile service will come directly from your mobile operator’s official website, app, or authorized stores.”
If you receive a call threatening to disconnect your mobile service, please do the following:
- Do not share any personal information or financial details with the caller.
- Note down the caller’s phone number, date, and time of the call.
- Report the details of the call to the DoT’s “Chakshu” facility at www.sancharsaathi.gov.in
The “Chakshu” facility is a dedicated platform to report fraudulent calls and messages online. Your report will help the authorities take action against these scammers.
