To file an e-FIR or police complaint with Assam Police for civil criminal incidents (including theft, lost/found, fraud, forgery, cheating, money laundering, non-cognizable offence, etc.), follow these steps and use the provided contact details.
Before this, you should know that a police complaint is an informal report about an incident, submitted orally or in writing and an FIR (First Information Report) is a formal, written report filed at a police station regarding a cognizable offence (a serious crime where the police can arrest without a warrant).
Steps to File a Police Complaint or e-FIR
Assam Police Seva Setu Portal allows e-FIR filing for crimes against women, crimes against children (POCSO Act), and vehicle theft. Follow these steps:
- Visit the Assam Police’s official website (polcitizen.assam.gov.in).
- Navigate to the citizen service section.
- Click “e-Complaint”, “e-FIR”, or “Public Grievance Redressal” option to open the form.
- Fill out the required details including the time and location of the incident, type of case, and supporting evidence of the non-cognizable offences.
- Attach supporting documents and photos.
- Submit the form.
Finally, note the reference number for tracking your e-FIR. To report a technical issue, email citizensupport@assampolice.assam.gov.in .
Note: For Cognizable Offenses, file an FIR at the local police station by providing a detailed account of the incident, including date, time, location, and any relevant evidence, and obtain a copy of the FIR for your records.
To contact the control room of police headquarters, dial the helpline number +913612526189 or +913612524383 and email to adgp-adm@assampolice.gov.in.
For more help, call on these police helplines: Dial 112 or 100 in case of emergency or 1098 (child help). You can call at +919345215029 or +913612521242 for women’s help. To report a cybercrime, call at the toll-free number 1930 or lodge your complaint online to the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
Further, you can escalate your complaint to:
- District Superintendent of Police (SP)
