I booked a hotel Shree Venkatesh Nileyam at Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh on May 12 ,2025 through Expedia. The booking was for May 21,2025 to May 23,2025.
I rang to the hotel on May 15,2025 about my booking and was shocked to know that Shree Venkatesh Nileyam has no tie up with Expedia and has not received any query from Expedia. Hotel staff informed me that a fresh booking would have to be done by me.
I immediately cancelled my booking with Expedia and requested them to refund my booking amount, which they acknowledged.
However, had I not contacted the local hotel I would have been in the dark about this cheating and my visit would have been spoilt by Expedia.
What can be done to check this type of fraud?

Also report the issue on the National Consumer Helpline (1800-11-4000). Keep all communication and refund confirmation for reference.
